THE GOOD SHEPHERD FARM IN NORTHERN MAINE
Price Reduced $50,000
A few years ago we found our homestead that is perfect for self sufficient living but the Lord has led us to move to minister in the Philippines. The property has a three bedroom cabin and a two bedroom mobile home at the end of the Appalachians near Mount Katahdin (the highest mountain in Maine). Our 40 Acre Homestead has two homes, two bath's, two kitchens, two septic systems, and a total of five bedroom. We also have a 32 foot camper on the site which is in very good condition for summer guests.
We spent well over $100,000 on our property and we also spent thousands more to hire people to take care of our livestock but that venture was only a learning experience as it cost us thousands more to pay for their feed, hay, and hiring people to do the work than we ever made from all of the livestock combined. We installed lots of livestock fencing, a barn, a smaller livestock shelter that we used for two large cows, and numerous storage shelters. We sold off all of the livestock because the costs of paying people to care for them was a money pit.
If you are a wise preper or just want the simple life in a beautiful country setting this might just be what your looking for. There is allot more info below about this beautiful homestead complete with lots of pictures.

PICTURES OF OUR HOMESTEAD
We apologize that the people who were caring for our homestead when most of these pictures were taken left the place messy. We now have a family living on the property that keeps the place very clean and neat.
The property has plenty of acreage for growing all kinds of crops and there are excellent grazing fields for all kinds of livestock.
We hired a logging company to build a logging road for our long driveway to our 3 bedroom cabin and to our 2 bedroom mobile home. Two families can live on this property. Each home has its own sceptic system with solar power, separate heating systems, and plumming.
THERE ARE AT LEAST ONE HUNDRED DIFFERENT EDIBLE APPLE TREES ON THE PROPERTY. The green and macintosh are good for long term root cellar storage and the delicious red apples are good for eating fresh and for making apple sauce.
Our 40 acre farm use to be an old homestead that had been tilled since the 1800's. We have found old ruins of a barn and a small house on our property. Most of the property has walls of rocks that were removed by the old timers who lived off of this land for over one hundred years. Our property has just the right mixture of woods and fields for a beautiful homestead. Our soil is very rich and has produced and abundant harvest of corn, sunflower, potatoes, beans, squash etc. The only plant that did not do well was our tomatoes because Northern Maine has been receiving so much rain during the summers that they suffered from blight. We have not had to irrigate this year either because our farm has always received an abundance of rain throughout the summers.
Many other farmers lost their crops by root rot from the heavy rains but since our farm is on high ground (mostly flat or slightly sloping land on top of a hill) we have never had a problem with the rain killing our crops (except for tomato blight). Our property is about 800 feet above sea level and about 100 miles from the coast. The old timers removed the large rocks and boulders from the fields so we can easily till the land without obstruction.
We are off the grid and our closest neighbors are about one mile away. Yet there is a small grocery store, two gas stations, three restaurants and a small motel - all within an 8 minute drive from our property. The Southern Aroostook County School (kindergarden - 12th grade) is just ten minutes away and the closest Walmart is about 15 minutes away in the town of Houlton. There is a small hopsital, doctors, and everything you need in Houlton which is a fifteen minute drive down I-95. This is the perfect environment to raise a family in a country setting while not being very far from civilization. The property can also serve as a hunters paradise because the land abounds with deer, turkey, grouse, black bear and Moose.

LEFT PHOTO: Our 52 foot long cozy cabin was built by our Amish neighbors. It has three bedrooms, a large living room in the center with large windows. We recently built an extension onto the back with a full kitchen and bath. This cabin has solar power via an underground line from our first home, a propane heater, a coal burning stove, a separate septic system, a 440 foot deep well with a water pump that can be used with our generator or our bison old fashioned hand pump. We have hot and cold water in the bathroom and kitchen, a gas stove and there are beautiful views on all sides. The large double glass doors at the center of the cabin gives us a beautiful view of the surrounding hills in the distance. Great for snowmobiling or sledding down the hills and nature trails that cross through our property.
LEFT PHOTO: Here is a view of our kitchen and bath extension that we added later on. We installed a very strong screen door with iron bars for added protection. The cabin has another entrance on the other side of the cabin that leads to a hallway adjacent to two small bedrooms that leads into the living room. Our cabin has plenty of large windows to give ample ventilation during the summer and wonderful views on all sides all year long. We often see deer from the windows.
LEFT PHOTO: Our backyard view from our driveway. We had a logging company build a large driveway from the road so that we could live further away from the road. It is hard to see us from the road as the buildings are set back. No one lives on the road leading to our property. Our nearest neighbor is an Amish family about a mile away and there are more houses with electricity about a mile away in the other direction.
PHOTO BELOW: There is a separate poultry area on the other side of the barn which is fenced and gated from the larger livestock.
